Voting for the annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has started across the country this morning.Â
A neck-to-neck competition is expected between the Hamid Khan Group and the Asma Jahangir Group in the SCBA elections. 20 candidates are contesting for five SCBA seats.
Mian Abdul Quddus is Hamid Khan Group’s candidate for the SCBA president while Shahzad Shaukat is Asma Jahangir Group’s candidate for the same slot.
Salman Mansoor is Hamid Khan Group’s candidate for the SCBA secretary while Syed Ali Imran is Asma Jahangir Group’s candidate for the same position.
11 candidates are contesting for four provincial seats of SCBA vice presidents.
Three candidates including Ali Ahmed Rana, Riyaz Hussain and Rifat Islam are contesting for the seat of the SCBA finance secretary.
Mohammad Aurangzeb Khan and Sardar Shahbaz Khosa are contesting for the seat of the SCBA additional secretary.
3,756 lawyers from across the country will exercise their right to vote in the SCBA elections, and 678 lawyers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will exercise their right to vote.
12 polling stations have been set up across the country for the SCBA elections, and the voting process will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, voting for the SCBA elections in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry has also started. The voting started with a 35-minute delay.
