KARACHI: The permanent Vice-Chancellor of the Urdu University, Dr. Athar Ata, on Wednesday, May 25, removed three officers in one hour and appointed two controversial officers to important posts. It was expected that after the appointment of the permanent Vice-Chancellor, advertisements for the posts of Registrar, Controller Examinations, and Treasurer will be issued without any change in the existing setup. However, appointments are being made on the contrary.
According to the details, Dr. Athar Ata, Permanent Vice-Chancellor of the University of Urdu, removed the controversial and unconstitutional Secretary for the Office of Sheikh Jamia Sharjeel Naveed and appointed Rahim Bakhsh, the Permanent Personal Secretary of the University, to the original post. For which the Registrar has issued Notification No. 2029. Rahim Bakhsh will assume responsibilities on Thursday, May 26.
In addition, by the order of VC, the Registrar has removed the acting and most controversial treasurer Danish Ehsan and in his place, another controversial officer, Deputy Director Finance Asim Bukhari, has been given the charge of acting treasurer.
It is learned that Asim Bukhari had been working as Deputy Treasurer in the Islamabad Campus in the past where Asim Bukhari was accused of alleged financial irregularities in the Islamabad Campus. He is accused of corruption of Rs 150 million in the Islamabad campus and an inquiry against him is still pending. Asim Bukhari had in the past been removed from his post of accountant and other important posts on corruption charges.
Asim Bukhari has been acting treasurer of Urdu University before. They were appointed on February 1, 2020, by former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Arif Zubair. After which the female Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rubina Mushtaq removed him again and replaced him with Danish Ehsan who also has reports of assets in excess of his employment.
In addition, on the orders of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Registrar has issued letter 2025 and removed the Acting Registrar Dr. Rubina Mushtaq from her post and appointed Prof. Dr. Zarina Ali, Acting Registrar, in her place. Although Dr. Rubina Mushtaq, Professor of Zoology, has been accused of fraudulent recruitment and promotion, there are reports that those who have been posted have been in various Inquiry Committees and no Inquiry Committee has been completed. ۔ Dr. Zarina Ali herself is also Professor of Botany and Head of the Department of Botany.
On the other hand, the teachers are of the opinion that if even the permanent vice-chancellor has removed the registrar and the treasurer, it seems that the vice-chancellor will once again be de-tracked and under the influence of one group will fail to run the affairs transparently. ۔ It was expected that as soon as the Vice-Chancellor was appointed, the posts of Registrar, Treasurer and Examiner would be advertised the next day and qualified officers would be appointed from the market.
