NEW YORK: The United States has recorded a number of coronavirus deaths in a single day with 2,804 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 45,343 deaths in the country.
The US has by far the world’s largest number of COVID-19 cases at over 819,175, almost four times as many as Spain, the country with the second-highest number.
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan each reported their highest single-day coronavirus-related death tolls over 800 between the three states. New York state, the epicenter of the US outbreak, reported 481 new deaths.
New York has been the US state hardest hit by the coronavirus, with more than 14,000 people dying from the virus, according to the latest statistics.
The World Health Organization has hit back at US President Donald Trump’s accusation that it covered up the severity of COVID-19 and China’s inability to contain the virus.
