ISLAMABAD: A student of the Quaid-e-Azam University was allegedly molested and sexually assaulted by a group of students and employees at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).
According to reports, the student of Quaid-e-Azam University was staying in the hostel of the Islamic University. The incident surfaced after the student tried to protect himself and the matter was brought to the notice of the university administration.
The administration initially tried to cover up the incident for two days. A meeting of the Student Disciplinary Committee was held on June 18 and two Islamic University students, Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and Mahmood Ashraf, were expelled from the university.
Sources revealed that attempts were made by the administration to suppress the matter instead of filing an FIR in the concerned police station, which shows the negligence of the university administration..
A source said that the accused Ibrahim is a brother of Yousuf, an employee of the hostel, and was staying illegally in the hostel. Yusuf is a close aide of provost Dr Abrar Anwar and has been appointed in Grade 16 as the caretaker of the entire hostel. Dr Abrar himself has been removed from the post before for allegedly receiving bribes.
It has been revealed that Yusuf allowed his brothers and friends to stay illegally at the hostel which also raises concerns about the state of security.
Sources also revealed said that the current head of security, Colonel Amjad, had been transferred after some untoward incidents at the hostel. Colonel Amjad later retired from the university but university vice president Dr Nabi Bux Jumani made strident efforts to reappoint despite passing retirement age and in violation of court orders.
Earlier, immoral videos of Dr Jumani had surfaced. Dr Zafar Iqbal, former president of the Academic Staff Association, formally sent letters to the president and rector about the scandal. Dr Muhammad Mushtaq, an associate professor in the law department of the university, also brought the matter to the notice of higher authorities
The scandal was also discussed before a sub-committee of the National Assembly’s standing committee, but the university’s president and rector are completely silent on the matter.
