ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Saturday received a telephone call from Secretary Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom James Cleverly.
The UK foreign secretary condemned the terrorist attacks in Mastung and Hangu and condoled the loss of innocent lives. He expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and hoped for speedy recovery of those injured.
The prime minister thanked Secretary Cleverly and the United Kingdom for their expression of solidarity and reiterated his government’s firm resolve to bring those responsible to justice and wipe out the menace of terrorism.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the terrorist attacks in two Pakistani cities — Mastung and Hangu — and called for bringing the people responsible for those strikes to justice.
“We condemn the terrorist attacks that took place in Pakistan, killing more than 50 people,” his Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at the regular noon briefing at UN Headquarters in New York.
“The fact that these killings took place during religious ceremonies makes them even more heinous”, he said, adding that it was “even more horrific to target people as they go about a religious ceremony, a peaceful religious ceremony.”
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, Iran, Iraq and France, while strongly condemning and denouncing the terrorist attacks have reaffirmed their solidarity with Pakistan and its people.
At least 52 people, including a police officer, were killed while dozens were injured in a suspected suicide blast near a 12th Rabiul Awwal procession in Mastung district of Balochistan.
