UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev is set to make his first title defense at 170 pounds against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330, scheduled for August 15 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
UFC officials confirmed the main event on Wednesday, alongside another title bout in which women’s strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern will defend her belt for the first time against Gillian Robertson on the same card.
Makhachev (28-1), widely regarded as the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter, enters the contest on a dominant run.
He has been unbeaten since 2015 and previously held the UFC lightweight title before moving up to welterweight. He captured the 170-pound championship with a five-round decision victory over Jack Della Maddalena and now looks to establish his reign in the division.
His opponent, Ian Machado Garry (17-1), has a strong UFC record of 10-1. The Irish fighter’s only defeat came against unbeaten Shavkat Rakhmonov in December 2024, though he became the first to avoid being finished by the Kazakh star. Garry has since rebounded with wins over Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad.
In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern (16-5) will defend her strawweight title after winning the vacant belt against Virna Jandiroba in October.
