The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has intensified its crackdown on electricity theft in the Eastern Circle, uncovering several cases involving modern and sophisticated methods of power tampering.
Modern electricity theft methods now include the use of hidden electronic chips and remote-control systems inside digital meters. These devices allow offenders to alter or reduce readings using Bluetooth or RF-based technology, making detection more challenging than traditional illegal connections.
According to a LESCO spokesperson, operations were carried out in various areas under the supervision of Superintending Engineer (SE) Eastern Circle Umar Bilal.
During the raids, teams detected direct electricity supply through main cables at Gujar Dairy Milk in the Mahmood Booti Sub-Division. The site was reportedly using heavy electrical loads, including chillers, freezers, air conditioners, and other high-consumption equipment.
In another action in the Baghbanpura Sub-Division, a consumer identified as Farooq was found involved in meter tampering. Officials said the meter was being controlled through a Bluetooth-enabled device, allowing manipulation of recorded electricity usage.
LESCO teams have initiated proceedings to issue detection bills and register FIRs against those involved in electricity theft and meter tampering.
LESCO CEO Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt said that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in power theft, adding that operations will continue without discrimination to protect national revenue.
