ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have arrested two women at Islamabad International Airport for allegedly smuggling contraband medicines to a foreign country.
ANF officials conducted a raid on a tip-off at Islamabad airport and foiled the bid to smuggle a huge quantity of contraband medicines. The women were identified as Shabana Gul, w/o Tayyab Tahir and Shazia Bibi, w/o Muhammad Tahir. They were travelling from Islamabad to Jeddah via Flight No. SV889.
Nine packets of Clonazepam tablets weighed over 8.514 kilograms were recovered from the luggage of the passengers departing for Jeddah. A case has been registered against the women. ANF spokesperson said that further investigation is underway after registration of case against them.
Earlier, Airport Security Force (ASF) on Thursday seized a huge quantity of heroin from a car at New Islamabad International Airport.
According to ASF officials, the vehicle was searched as it entered the airport’s parking area, resulting in the recovery of 21 kilogrammes of heroin.
The car’s driver Muhammad Ahmed, who hailed from Khyber agency of Khyber Pakhtunkwa, was taken into custody. After initial interrogation, he was handed over to the ANF for further investigation. The drugs are estimated to be worth millions of rupees in the international market.
On December 2, the Airport Security Force had foiled a drug smuggling bid at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore. The authorities recovered 9.04 kilogrammes of heroin from the luggage of a passenger during a manual search concealed at the bottom of a trolley bag. The passenger, named Tasawar Ijaz, a resident of Rawalpindi, was to board a Milan-bound flight.
