A father and son died after inhaling toxic gas inside a sewer line near BCG Chowk, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Multan to clarify that the deceased were not performing official duties.
According to a spokesperson, Muhammad Ismail descended into the sewer line and lost consciousness due to poisonous gas. His son, Ramzan, entered the line in an attempt to rescue his father, but both men succumbed to the toxic fumes on the spot.
Commenting on the incident, WASA Multan Managing Director Faisal Shaukat clarified that the two deceased were not on official WASA duty and had entered the sewer line in their personal capacity to assist a private contractor.
Expressing grief over the tragedy, the MD stated that WASA prioritizes the safety of its field staff, ensuring strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the provision of protective equipment during all official operations.
