KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two individuals allegedly trained by India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), alongside the recovery of weapons, including hand grenades, from their possession.
In a collaborative operation between law enforcement and an intelligence agency, Sheikh Mohammed Ayub, also known as Ayub Ansari, and Ahsan Raza were detained, as disclosed by Korangi SSP Hassan Sardar Niazi.
The initiative stemmed from interrogations of previously detained individuals reportedly trained by RAW, namely Khawar Husain and Mohammed Jaber, the SSP said. Ayub was characterized as the purported ‘mastermind agent’ of RAW.
The officer asserted, “A substantial network orchestrated by RAW in Karachi has been dismantled.”
Allegedly, Ayub Ansari arrived in Karachi in 1998 and had been residing in Pakistan unlawfully, concealing his true identity. He purportedly entered Karachi on a visit visa from Mumbai, later acquiring a Pakistani passport and CNIC through illicit means.
According to the police statement, RAW is believed to have been orchestrating an organized terrorism network across various countries.
The suspect Ansari, it is alleged, conducted reconnaissance on potential targets for targeted killings, the officer added.
