Trump expresses confidence in China over fight against coronavirus

WASHINGTON: The White House said on Friday that President Donald Trump conveyed his “confidence” in the potential of China to address the novel coronavirus outbreak during his telephonic talks with his counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing.

“The two leaders decided to continue comprehensive communication and better cooperation between the two sides,” the Chinese state media said that both leaders spoke on the phone and discussed the various matters particularly about the Coronavirus outbreak which has taken almost 640 lives so far in China and affected hundreds of people.

The White House said in a statement that President Donald Trump “expressed confidence in the strength and determination of China in tackling the deadly coronavirus epidemic.”

The statement also observed that the two leaders had addressed “the major accomplishment of the recent US-China stage one trade deal and reiterated their dedication to its application.”
