KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were killed and a police constable was injured during an alleged encounter in Machhar Colony, Maripur, police and rescue officials said.
The exchange of fire took place near Akhlaq Chowk, where personnel from the Docks police reportedly engaged the suspects. Rescue officials said two of the alleged robbers died at the scene, while a third—who was critically injured—succumbed to his wounds while being transported to hospital.
The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police said the Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the site before the bodies were moved late at night with the assistance of volunteers.
According to police, weapons, ammunition and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspects. Investigators are examining the recovered items as part of the inquiry into the incident.
Authorities also began efforts to establish the identities of the deceased using a Talash App device. Later, SHO Docks identified the slain suspects as Rehman, Omar Daraz and Sajid.
Police Constable Kaleemullah sustained minor injuries during the alleged encounter, according to the SHO. Further investigation into the incident and the recovered weapons is under way.
