KSE‑100 jumps 780 points as PSX steadies

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a measured recovery in early trade on Wednesday, a day after suffering one of its steepest single‑day declines in recent months.

The benchmark KSE‑100 Index, which had shed over 2,500 points on Tuesday, was seen climbing 780 points to 178,735.75 during the opening session.

Market Rebounds After Heavy Sell‑off

Investor sentiment appeared to stabilise despite the government’s latest hike in petroleum prices.

The broader All‑Share Index gained 568 points to 108,328.79, while the KSE‑30 and KMI‑30 also registered advances. The banking index, however, remained under slight pressure, slipping marginally by 5.89 points.

Trading volumes crossed 46 million shares with a value of Rs3.51 billion, as 237 scrips advanced against 85 that declined.

Political Climate Eases

The rebound coincided with a perceptible easing in the political environment.

The Supreme Court’s order to shift former prime minister Imran Khan to hospital was seen as a calming factor, reducing immediate anxieties that had weighed heavily on the market in recent weeks.

Political analysts noted that while external risks such as Middle East tensions and firming global oil prices continue to cast a shadow, the local political relief provided space for bargain hunting and selective buying.

Market watchers cautioned that the sustainability of Wednesday’s recovery will depend on how investors digest the impact of rising fuel costs and whether the government signals clarity on fiscal measures. For now, the PSX’s early rebound reflects a tentative return of confidence after Tuesday’s rout.
