The Kuwait Civil Service Commission has announced a three-day public holiday in observance of the Shab-e-Mairaj, which will take place from Thursday, January 30, to Saturday, February 1.
According to Kuwaiti media, this holiday commemorates an important occasion in Islamic tradition, celebrating the miraculous journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Although the Night of Ascension (Shab-e-Mairaj) falls on January 27, the Kuwaiti cabinet has decided to observe the holiday on Thursday to provide the public with an extended weekend.
During this period, all government offices and public institutions will remain closed, and work will resume on Sunday, February 2. Essential service agencies will arrange their holiday schedules during this time to ensure that public services are not disrupted.
This decision reflects the government’s strategy to balance the significance of religious occasions with practical necessities. Previously, the Kuwaiti government announced new rules and regulations for the introduction of evening shifts in some government offices starting January 2025.
The Kuwait Civil Service Commission stated that the new system has been in effect since January 5, and the implementation procedures have also been clarified.
