KARACHI: Three employees of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) have been illegally regularized and issue a registration number in violation of rules.

KDA Line Area Project Director and Chief Engineer Mubeen Siddiqui, Director IT Kamal Siddiqui, KDA secretary as well as other high-ranking officials have negated over 200 work charge workers and have instead hand-picked three blue-eyed employees.

The KDA workers have been protesting for the past several days against the non-payment of salaries for the past three years.  The three employees had also been protesting alongside them but were the only ones who were regularized while their salaries and other privileges have also been released.

Well informed sources said employees Sheraz Qureshi, Murtaza Qureshi and Shahnawaz Qureshi had allegedly paid between Rs300,000 to Rs500,000 to the project director to secure the favour. Sheraz Qureshi is also an office-bearer of the PML-N and had various criminal cases lodged against him.

The KDA workers had been protesting for their rights for the past several days. After immense protests, a scrutiny committee was formed but was unable to resolve the matter. Only 12 employees have been regularized illegally after receiving underhand payments.

The protests had announced a protest at Civic Centre against Director General KDA. An application has also been filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan while the employees have urged the Local Government Department to intervene and resolve the issue.
