ISLAMABAD: The 9th of Muharram is being observed throughout the country on Wednesday with due solemnity and sanctity to pay homage to the sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in Karbala.
There will be mourning processions of 9th Muharram in cities of Pakistan today for which security has been tightened and thousands of security personnel including police and Rangers have been deployed. According to details, the procession of 9th Muharram in Karachi will start from Nishtar Park, pass through traditional routes, and end at Hussainiya Imambargah, the security of which has been tightened.
Today, on the day of 9th Muharram, 5,047 security personnel have been deployed in Karachi to monitor and secure the procession. Around 822 NGO workers, including 80 senior police officers, 4,222 head constables and constables are part of the security.
Before the procession, a meeting will be held at 12 noon in Nishtar Park in Karachi. The mourners will offer noon prayers at Ali Raza Imambargah at 2 p.m. Heavy contingents of police have been deployed on the main procession routes and corridors.

The mourning procession of 9th Muharram in Lahore will start from Pando Street Islampura and will reach Siraj Building Chowk via Pando Street and Alamgir road. Participants of the procession will reach Siraj Building Chowk and offer noon prayers.
The procession of 9th Muharram will end at 12 noon tonight at Imambargah Pando Street. Similarly, small and large mourning processions in Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and other cities will follow their traditional routes.
Surveillance and security arrangements have been tightened for the 9th Muharram mourning processions across the country. Citizens will not be allowed to pass through the procession routes for which alternative route plans have been issued.
It may be recalled that earlier during the holy days of Muharram, a traffic plan was issued regarding the traditional routes of the procession while the citizens were instructed to be careful while traveling.
Two days ago today, a traffic plan was issued for Muharram processions. The traditional procession of the 8th Muharram in Karachi passed through its scheduled routes and reached Hussainiyan Iranians in the Kharadar area of Sindh’s capital.
