Today, it has been 15 years since the Karsaz tragedy took place in Karachi on October 18, just two months before the martyrdom of the first female Prime Minister of the country, Benazir Bhutto, in 2007. It was the biggest terrorist attack on any political party in the country’s history.
When Ms. Benazir Bhutto returned home, Pakistan People’s Party workers took out a rally to welcome their leader. More than 130 people died in the terrorist attack. Due to two bomb blasts, the welcoming rally was bathed in blood. More or less 450 people were also injured in the October 18 tragedy.
The target of terrorism was probably Ms. Benazir Bhutto, who was immediately taken to Bilawal House, but on December 27 of the same year, the PPP chairperson was also martyred in an assassination attack. Every year on October 18, the Pakistan People’s Party commemorates the martyrs of Karsaz, and thousands of party workers and leaders reach the martyrs’ memorial to pay tribute to all the martyrs, but the entire nation feels the grief of the Karsaz tragedy.
The martyrs of the country’s first woman Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, are undoubtedly the enemies of the Pakistani nation, who took away a highly educated and multi-awarded and courageous woman from Pakistan. Terrorists are still active against Pakistan in various areas and are targeting other important figures including the armed forces, political figures, and the judiciary.
There is a need for the nation to show unity instead of dividing into different factions and show the world that no Pakistani stands with terrorists.
