After three-and-a-half years, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) along with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) finally put the last nail in the coffin of Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government. The PTI government will be overthrown or not, it remains to be seen, but no one can deny the fact that the incumbent government is in grave danger.
There are two reasons behind the threats to the government. First one is the dishonest lawmakers. Such politicians can betray anyone for the sake of their own interests. The extreme pain in Imran Khan’s back today is also a dagger wound from the same group, whose participation in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was just for the sake of greed.
The political horses – who enjoyed four years of rule after winning on PTI ticket, when they saw that the government was faltering and its term was coming to an end, they shifted their allegiance for their future politics. Sources have claimed that dozens of PTI lawmakers – who are playing the role in making no-confidence motion a success – will contest next elections on tickets of other political parties.
The second major reason for the threats to Imran Khan-led government is his anti-Western rhetoric, which has made United States and several European countries furious. In other words their Kaampein Taang Rahi Hai [Shivers are legging].
Pakistan has been considered United States’ best ally from the beginning. The United States cannot sustain its policy in Asia without an alliance with Pakistan, so that was the main reason for the bilateral relations between the two countries.
It is a different matter that relations were not on an equal footing, but were for the sake of interests. Behind this bilateral friendship, most of the interests were of America, so it would not be out of place to call America a friendly enemy. The 74-year history testifies that whenever a difficult time came to Pakistan, the United States was always unfaithful.
The losses incurred by Pakistan in the Afghan war could hardly have been borne by the United States. Be it the Kashmir cause or the tragic fall of Dhaka, the US has always been a silent spectator, even keeping Pakistan alone on the moral and diplomatic front. However, Imran Khan wants to free the nation from the trap that some external forces have thrown in the name of democracy in Pakistan.
Today, all parties in Pakistan are wearing the mantle of democracy based on self-interest, which is why real democracy is so far away from us. Under the umbrella of the democracy that is being promoted in Pakistan, you have to become a tool of “some forces” and you cannot move forward in the political arena without following all the illegitimate instructions of the West.
Therefore, in order to carry out their orders, the West needs incompetent and self-interested groups who will continue to act on their cues after coming to power. In the end, I would just like to say that the MNAs elected by the votes of the nation should go beyond their personal interests and cast their valuable vote in the wider interest of the nation, so that tomorrow they can also answer their conscience.
