FBR has added that 509,039 filers have not been included in this year’s list as they could not file their tax returns within due date or the date extended by the respective commissioners and ATL surcharge had not been paid by them.
FBR has clarified that such taxpayers can get themselves automatically included in the ATL if they pay the necessary surcharge. The amount of ATL surcharge for companies is Rs. 20,000, Association of Persons Rs. 10,000 and ATL surcharge for individuals is Rs. 1000. FBR said such taxpayers can pay the ATL surcharge and receive benefits. Similarly, those taxpayers who could not file their returns for Tax Year-2020 till now, are also urged to avail the benefit of ATL by filing their returns along with the surcharge.
The FBR published the Active Taxpayers’ List (ATL) for the Tax Year 2020 in accordance with the provisions of Rule 81B of Income Tax Rules 2002. It said that the ATL was a central record of online Income Tax Return filers for the previous tax year and was being published every financial year on March 1 and remains valid up to the last day of February of the next financial year.
According to the statement, a person on the ATL could avail many benefits and was not subject to withholding tax on cash withdrawals and other banking transactions.
Similarly, for such persons, tax on imports, dividends, goods, services and contracts, profit on debt, prize and winnings, purchase of motor vehicles, purchase and sale of property etc. is withheld at a lesser rate.
The list includes those who have filed income tax returns for tax year 2020 within the due date or the dates extended by the concerned Commissioner Inland Revenue. The list would be updated on weekly basis every Sunday and would be available on FBR’s website and Tax Asaan App.
