Police have arrested a man identified as Zahid for allegedly operating fake social media accounts in Landi Kotal of the Khyber District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police, a case has been registered against the suspect at Landi Kotal Police Station.
He has been accused of allegedly defaming and blackmailing citizens.
According to the FIR, the suspect allegedly created inappropriate photos and videos and uploaded them to social media.
He is also accused of allegedly demanding money from victims and threatening them.
The FIR says that police traced and arrested Zahid, who was allegedly identified as the alleged ringleader of a network of fake social media accounts.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint filed by Shah Fahad.
Police said further interrogation of the arrested suspect is underway, while efforts are continuing to arrest other alleged members of the network.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s federal government is strictly enforcing the Civil Servants (Conduct) Rules to take disciplinary action against state employees involved in anti-government social media activity, sharing critical narratives, or using anonymous and fake accounts to defame state institutions.
