Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has officially lifted the ban on new domestic gas connections across the country.

During a media briefing, SNGPL Managing Director Aamer Tufail announced that LNG-based connections have also been approved, making it possible once again to supply gas to households.

Tufail said that a special monitoring unit has been established at the SNGPL head office, with regional units also set up to ensure swift processing of consumer applications. The company has allocated a dedicated helpline (0800) to assist applicants.

According to the MD, around 245,000 consumers had already submitted demand notices, and all of them have now been issued letters allowing them to proceed with their gas connection installations. He clarified that priority will be given to those who had paid in advance, although new applicants can still opt for urgent processing by paying a fast-track fee.

Tufail further shared that the company aims to provide 300,000 new gas connections this year, and from next year onwards, the target will be 600,000 new connections annually. He also noted that LPG cylinders are roughly 30% more expensive than LNG, so consumers will no longer need to rely on costly alternatives as piped gas becomes available directly to homes.

The SNGPL chief added that while LNG is relatively expensive, it does not become a financial burden for consumers if used wisely. The current price for LNG has been set at PKR 3,200 per MMBTU.

Tufail also highlighted a significant operational improvement: the company has reduced its UFG (Unaccounted-for Gas) losses to just 5%, marking notable progress compared to previous years.
