KARACHI: The Federal University of Urdu Arts, Science and Technology (FUAAST) has banned all student organizations activities, as announced by the university’s interim registrar on Wednesday.
The notification specifies that student organizations are now prohibited from organizing both educational and non-educational activities at FUAAST. The move has drawn criticism from various stakeholders.
Moreover, the university has issued strict warnings to students, indicating that any future violations of university management guidelines could result in immediate cancellation of their admission. This directive has raised concerns among student groups such as the Islamic Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) and People’s Students Federation (PSF).
Basiq Nadeem, a spokesperson for the IJT, strongly condemned the decision, calling it a “misguided approach that fails to address the underlying issues within the university.” He was quoted as saying by Geo News, “Banning student representation is not a solution to the problems at hand. Student organizations serve as the voice of the student body, advocating for their rights and interests.”
This follows a similar ban issued by the University of Karachi in January after a violent clash between two student groups on campus.
