Apart from other problems due to political pollution in the beloved country, environmental pollution is also proving to be very difficult to be controlled and it is obvious that when there is no political stability in the country, the people simply face poverty and inflation and it comes to the point that even two meals a day is not available. In such a case, it is difficult for people suffering from hunger and poverty to pay attention to the environment due to different conditions.
According to the poet:
نور سرمایہ سے ہے روئے تمدن کی جلا
ہم جہاں ہیں وہاں تہذیب نہیں پل سکتی
مفلسی حس لطافت کو مٹا دیتی ہے
بھوک آداب کے سانچوں میں نہیں ڈھل سکت
Rakim al-Haruf has been frequently covering these issues in his writings for the past several years that political stability is the main source of economic stability. However, when political stability is unstable, on the other hand, its effects are affecting all spheres of life.
The environment has become a huge problem for the whole world including Pakistan, today is being celebrated on the global level regarding the environment. Every year on June 5, World Environment Day is organized to raise awareness and encourage countries, individuals, and organizations to raise awareness as well as their spirit.
The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is plastic pollution, a problem that governments, institutions, and individuals do not fully understand. When these forms of plastic change, it affects not only humans, but also marine life, which not only affects health, but also reproduction and mental health.
According to the report, about 400 million i.e. 40 million tons of plastic is produced in the world, of which about ninety percent flows into the oceans, rivers, and lakes of the world.
This plastic breaks down into particles so small, smaller than 5mm, that it is impossible to see with the naked eye. Chemicals found in plastic can cause other health problems, including cancer, heart disease, and impaired fetal development.
Now it has come to this point that the invisible microplastic particles are dissolving in water and air and spreading like canker sores and its particles are also found in human blood tests and breast milk.
These microplastics and plastic fibers are so light and small that they are easily carried away by the wind. These particles are produced from the things we use in our daily life, in which different types of plastic are used.
Due to air pollution in the suburbs of Karachi, aquatic life is also facing severe threats. The fish are dying and those that survive become so dangerous that they make the eaters prone to various diseases.
Due to the inclusion of these plastic particles in the feed given to poultry products, the food of humans is becoming poisoned, and due to the presence of most of the garbage in Karachi, aquatic life is facing the threat of extinction.
It is very important for a country like Pakistan to play its part for its survival in an agreement like the ‘Paris Agreement’, but this is possible only when the storm of political pollution in the country subsides and attention can be diverted to other problems and difficulties.
In today’s era, environmental challenges have become very important not only for organizations, but also for every sector of life, on which practical and meaningful measures are indispensable to improve the situation.
The Aga Khan University as an institution has abandoned the use of plastic in all its institutions worldwide and these measures will have an impact on all Aga Khan institutions by 2030.
Even today, no plastic bottle can be used in Aga Khan’s hospital, university, or any institution which can become a practical model for the kingdom of Pakistan.
Apart from this, measures to prevent environmental pollution are given special importance during construction, which can be expected to make a significant difference in all institutions of Aga Khan, then it can be followed in all institutions of country.
