KARACHI: Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has issued a clarification regarding the academic schedule for schools reopening on August 1, 2026 stating that the newly announced six-day working week applies exclusively to government educational institutions.
According to the announcement made by the School Education Department, all government schools across Sindh will operate on a six-day weekly schedule starting August 1, 2026, with teaching activities conducted from Monday through Saturday.
However, in a follow-up statement posted on his social media platform, the education minister emphasized that private educational institutions are not bound by the mandatory six-day working week requirement.
Instead, private schools retain the autonomy to establish their own working hours and schedules in accordance with their institutional policies.
This differentiation between government and private sector educational institutions addresses potential concerns from private school operators regarding compliance with the new schedule.
The clarification provides flexibility for private institutions while ensuring standardized operations across government schools.
The decision comes as schools across Sindh prepare to resume academic activities following the summer break, with the government seeking to maximize instructional time for students in public institutions.
