A unique wedding ceremony has captivated attention nationwide as six brothers married six sisters on the same day in Multan, Pakistan.
The event was remarkable not just for its scale but also for its simplicity, as the families chose to forego dowries, salamis (gifts), and extravagant expenses often associated with traditional weddings.
The brothers had been planning this collective marriage for over 18 months, waiting for the youngest among them to come of age. Their decision to conduct a joint wedding was motivated by practicality and a desire to challenge societal norms.
“We’ve seen people go to great lengths, even selling land, to fund lavish weddings,” said the eldest brother. “We wanted to set an example that marriages can be simple and still joyous. All of us had love marriages, and both families fully supported this decision.”
The brothers adhered strictly to Islamic principles, avoiding outdated customs like dowries. “We ensured that the brides weren’t burdened with dowries, and we took responsibility for all the arrangements ourselves,” one of them explained.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Multan has witnessed such an event. A similar wedding took place in 2021 when six brothers married six sisters, drawing significant media attention.
On that occasion, all the brides and grooms were cousins, making the joint ceremony a practical choice for their families. While multiple weddings at a single event are common in Punjab, the scale and simplicity of this one made it stand out. It highlighted the possibility of celebrating unions without financial strain or societal pressures, leaving a lasting impression on the community.
