Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Energy Minister of Sindh, has said that the Sindh government’s initiative to establish solar parks aimed at contributing electricity to the national grid. He stated that the primary objective is to provide free electricity for up to 100 units to consumers within the province.
Speaking at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), Shah reassured attendees that the government is committed to preventing the imposition of taxes on solar power.
Expounding on the government’s strategy, Shah outlined, “We are devising a scheme to offer complimentary electricity for up to 100 units. The electricity generated from solar parks will be integrated into the national grid. We have directed power companies to ensure that electricity up to 100 units remains free. The PPP’s stance is crystal clear: imposing taxes on solar power is highly inappropriate, and we have reiterated this stance in the Senate.”
The provincial minister highlighted the allocation of 600 acres each in Malir and West districts of Karachi for solar parks, with another park being developed in Jamshoro.
Shah emphasized the success of solar energy as a model, citing three ongoing programs. He expressed openness to collaboration with the government on this front.
Moreover, Shah pointed out that Sindh offers the most cost-effective electricity to the national grid, particularly sourced from Thar coal, priced at 5.50 rupees per unit.
