KARACHI: The government of Sindh has not issued a notification despite the announcement to promote all students without any examinations due to coronavirus pandemic.
This decision has been embroiled in bureaucratic complications placing the future of over a million matriculation and intermediate students at stake. The Sindh government had announced that students will be promoted to the next grade without any examinations.
A summary was supposed to be passed regarding the proposals and recommendations to promote the students along with the grading system. However, there has been no progress as the matter has been stuck between the School Education and Literacy Department and Ministry of Law in Sindh.
Sources within School Education & Literacy Department informed that summary was lying with Law Ministry since over a week. Eventually, the law ministry returned the summary after raising certain objections.
Several weeks have passed and the objections raised by the Law Ministry have not been rectified. A meeting was called on Friday to move the summary but Secretary College Education Department Baqar Naqvi was not present.
A similar notification regarding promotion of school students without examination and subsequent grading has been passed by Balochistan, while the Sindh government has yet to provide relief to students.
The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has also approved the promotion without examination. However, Secretary College Education Department has not convened a meeting for the approvals and the matter has been left in a limbo placing the future of students at stake.
