KARACHI: Sindh budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 will be presented at Provincial Assembly in Karachi on Tuesday (today).
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the portfolio of Finance, will present the budget proposals. The outlay of the outgoing year’s budget stands at Rs1.5 trillion, however, the provincial government has decided to enhance it by Rs100 billion.
According to initial budget proposals, the government has allocated Rs128 billion for the law and order, Rs8 billion for the mass transit and Rs4 billion have been separately earmarked for Peoples Bus Service Project.
The provincial government has proposed increasing the salaries of government employees by10 to 25 percent. The government is expected to revise the pay scale of employees of Grade 1-5 and merge adhoc allowances with basic salary.
The provincial government also plans to include Rs32 billion under the district development budget. It is also expected to announce new schemes in 18 departments/
The Sindh government has also proposed an allocation of Rs18.509 billion for the health sector and Rs27.449 billion in education, increasing the former’s budget by Rs9 million. The government has proposed no increase in the allocations for IT, transport, and agriculture sectors.
As per the budget proposals, college education department, law, prisons, health, revenue and services and general administration would be among other departments where induction process will start after the budget.
Non-development expenditure of school education department has been enhanced from Rs222 billion to Rs228 billion, but the development budget of the department is likely to be unchanged.
The budget of local government department has been increased from Rs25 billion to Rs29 billion. The public health and engineering department is likely to get Rs17 billion as compared to Rs15 billion in current fiscal year.
The budget documents further suggest that Rs33 billion has been allocated for works and services department and Rs19 billion for irrigation department.
