Opposition activities have intensified after the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and after the split of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from the government, there are reports that the government has lost its majority in the National Assembly. However, the prime minister is still determined to save the government.
Members on government benches in NA
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is in the first position with 155 seats in the 342-member House. Pakistan Muslim League-Q has 5 seats, GDA has 3 seats and Awami Muslim League has one seat.
Number of opposition seats
In the National Assembly, PML-N has 84, PPP has 56, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal has 15, BNP Milli has 4, Awami National Party has one and two independents besides Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan has 7, BAP With the support of 4 more independent members, the total number of members has reached 178.
Imran Khan and the Prime Minister
After splitting from the coalition government, Prime Minister Imran Khan has apparently lost his numerical majority, after which the opposition has got a simple majority in the House and even if the angry PTI members vote for Imran Khan, It is not possible to save the prime minister because the opposition has completed the required number in the National Assembly.
Allied decision
The in-danger government has lost its moral legitimacy. Only the PML-Q with 5 seats is still in the ruling coalition while the 7-seat MQM has become part of the opposition alliance and Aslam Bhutani, an independent from BAP and Balochistan, has also joined the opposition.
Angry PTI members
Apart from the separation of allies, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is also facing the wrath of its party members. The opposition claims that more than 50 PTI members are standing against Imran Khan while there are reports of the presence of 22 government members in a meeting of the opposition yesterday. The two big angry factions of PTI Jahangir Khan Tareen and Aleem Khan are also leaning towards the opposition.
Tareen and Aleem group
The Jahangir Tareen group includes about 30 members of the National and Punjab Assemblies. Most of them are members who joined PTI at the behest of Jahangir Tareen after winning the elections as independents.
The second-largest group of PTI is Aleem Khan who was the biggest candidate for the post of Chief Minister in Punjab after the election but PTI replaced him with Usman Buzdar as Chief Minister while Aleem Khan was given the post of Senior Minister in the Punjab government. However, he later split from the ministry. Aleem Khan claims that there are about forty members who are with him and are ready to implement his decisions.
How will be the government saved?
After a numerical lead in the National Assembly, the opposition coalition has started working on a strategy to form a government and there are reports that after losing Imran Khan’s majority, possible Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is being given the same security as the Prime Minister.
Second, PM Imran Khan has so far been satisfied with the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition and his fellow ministers are adamant that Imran Khan will fight till the last ball and will not leave the field empty.
Here the question arises that the government has also approached the court regarding the deviant PTI assembly members but it is not possible to stop the vote the important thing here is that the government has added all its members to the figure of 172. How is it possible to save the prime minister and the government in such a situation?
