The documentary film ‘I Am Somebody’, made in collaboration with Pakistan’s two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and other renowned directors, has received international recognition.
The film won the ‘Garland of Honor’ award at the Milano International Festival and the festival is endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.
The film stars football icon David Beckham as a co-star and features children from different countries who participated in the Street Child World Cup of Football in Qatar. Some children from Brazil and Bangladesh, some from Pakistan, and some children from refugee camps in Palestine have been included in the film.
I Am Somebody tells the story of six street-connected children who were chosen to represent their country at the Street Child World Cup in Qatar. Some of them are from the streets of Brazil and Bangladesh, some from Pakistan and others from a refugee camp in Palestine, as per a press release.
The movie was filmed in five countries portraying the children before, during and after the Street Child World Cup which brought together 28 teams with more than 280 participants. The film demonstrates the power of football to ignite hope and positively impact the lives of these young people. It should be noted that the world premiere of the film was done in October this year on the occasion of the Rio Festival in Brazil.
