The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert forecasting extremely high temperatures across southern and central regions of the country from May 7 to 11.
According to the advisory, temperatures are expected to rise significantly above normal levels, with dry atmospheric conditions likely to intensify the heat. Heatwave-like conditions are also predicted for upper regions between May 8 and 10.
In Sindh, cities including Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Larkana are likely to experience extreme temperatures ranging between 46°C and 50°C.
Similarly, temperatures in parts of southern Punjab, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Kot Addu, Layyah, Bhakkar and Mianwali are expected to range between 43°C and 47°C.
In upper and central Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Jhang, temperatures are likely to remain between 39°C and 43°C.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, the weather is expected to remain extremely hot, with temperatures ranging from 35°C to 38°C.
The Met Office further stated that westerly winds are likely to enter upper parts of the country by the evening or night of May 10, which may help ease the intensity of heat by May 13.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, particularly during peak daytime hours. Special precautions have been recommended for children, the elderly, and women, including increased water intake.
