Security plan unveiled for PSL playoffs in Karachi

KARACHI: The security plan had been prepared for national and foreign cricketers for the playoffs of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Karachi.

A large contingent of police will be deployed at the National Stadium as well as the route and hotels where the players will be staying. Karachi Police has deployed 24 senior officers, 59 DSPs, 4275 head constables, 345 personnel of the Rapid Response Force and 1,018 commandoes of the Special Security Unit (SSU).

Police personnel in plains clothes will also be deployed at the National Stadium and hotels to perform their duties. A special security team SWAT has been prepared for rapid response in case of any untoward incident.

The playoffs for the remaining matches of the PSL are commencing from Saturday 14th November. The first qualifier match will be held between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings followed by an eliminator between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi on the same day.

The second eliminator match will be held on Sunday 15th November, while the final will be held on Tuesday 17th November.

Traffic Plan

Traffic Police released an alternate-route plan for citizens as areas in close proximity of the National Stadium will be closed for traffic to ensure maximum security

Deputy Inspector General stated that motorists will be required to take diversion routes to avoid inconvenience and authorities will fully cooperate with the public.

As per the plan, roads that link Shahrah-e-Faisal to Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road, and the Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road to the National Stadium will be closed for traffic. The roads linking the Rashid Minhas Road to the Stadium via Dalmia Road will remain closed.

Those drivng from NIPA Chowrangi, Askari-IV, and Drig Road towards Shahrah-e-Faisal or Millennium Mall will have to take the Gulshan Chowrangi, Safoora, or Sohrab Goth route.

Driving from Liaquatabad via the Hassan Square flyover toward the Stadium will not be allowed. Motorists who take this route will have to divert towards the University Road to reach their destinations.

The route from the University Road to New Town leading to the Stadium will be closed for traffic. Motorists will have to take the Jail Chowrangi, PP Chowrangi or the Shaheed-e-Millat road.

People commuting from the Aga Khan University Hospital, Liaquat National Hospital, and surrounding areas will have to take the New Town Police Station route.
