GUJRANWALA: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and an intelligence agency’s personnel on Friday claimed to apprehend five terrorists affiliated with Al-Qaeda’s media cell from Gujranwal in a joint operation.
According to CTD sources, on an intelligence report, the law enforcement agencies personnel conducted a joint operation in Gujranwala and detained five terrorists identified as Asim Akbar, Abdullah, Umair, Ahmed alias Qasim, Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Yaqoob.
A CTD official told that the law enforcers had been keeping a track of the terrorists for more than four months and getting secret information on them.
CTD officials said the “alleged miscreants were planning to carry out a huge attack in Gujranwala”. The law enforcers also claimed to have recovered a huge quantity of weapons, including improvised explosive devices suicide jackets and other ammunition from their possession.
The CTD officials further stated that the terrorists were affiliated with an Al-Qaeda media cell and were also collecting funds for their organization based in Afghanistan, adding that the detainees were also involved in many terror activities in Karachi and Gujranwala.
