Karachi has reported its second confirmed case of mpox, health authorities announced on Thursday.
According to the Medical Superintendent of Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital, a 22-year-old man tested positive for the virus at the facility.
The patient, a resident of Buffer Zone, has been transferred to an isolation ward following the positive result. Officials noted that the individual has no recent travel history.
This comes after the city’s first mpox case was recorded in March this year, involving a 28-year-old resident of Shah Latif Town.
Health authorities confirmed that the patient had contracted the virus from his wife, who had recently returned from an international trip and developed symptoms.
Strict precautionary measures have been implemented to prevent further spread of the virus in Karachi.
