ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) on Thursday suspended membership of, what it called, ‘controlling group’ of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) for committing ‘gross misconduct’ and attempt to illegally take over the SCBAP through group members.
This came within hours after, in response to PBC’s show cause notice, SCBAP filed a petition against the interference of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) in the Apex Court and urged to declare its show cause notice null and void.
The Pakistan Bar Council had issued a show cause notice to the SCBA president and the secretary on charges of violating the Code of Conduct.
SCBA President Abid Shahid Zuberi and Secretary Muqtadir Akhtar Shabbir approached the Supreme Court against the PBC through their advocate Hamid Khan, praying that the SC issue orders to restrain the PBC from interfering in the affairs of the SCBA as the Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar is a member of the Council.
Later on, the Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar issued a notification suspending the membership of seven members of the Pakistan Bar Council. The suspended members include Hassan Raza Pasha, Amjad Shah Riazat Ali Sahar, Tariq Afridi, Masood Chishti, Ahsan Bhawan, and Qalb Hasan Shah.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court Bar has also suspended the core membership of ten members of its executive committee. The suspended members of the executive committee include Muhammad Yusuf Mughal, Adnan Ejaz Sheikh, Hafza Bukhari, Afzal Malik Baloch, Aamir Sabir, Yasir Zahoor, Salim Akhtar Waraich, Muhammad Mohsin Wark, Manoj Kumhar Tajwani, and Irfan Mir.
