KARACHI: Several Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officers, who were suspended by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, have been issued key positions in the organisation, it has been revealed.
Among those who have been favoured include Rehan Elachi and Ali Mehdi who were suspended by the apex court. Ali Mehdi, who was given special favours by the Sindh government, is now serving as director-general without any formal announcement.
After assuming charge, Ali Mehdi has been given complete authority to make his own hirings and has control over all transfers and postings. The new SBCA chief Ashkar Dawar, who enjoys a good reputation, and the Sindh Local Government have failed to take any action.
Ali Mehdi has hired three favourites on key positions including Director Buildings New Karachi Town, Director Demolition, and Director Office Maintainenece.
Mehdi has showered his favours on Rehan Elachi and appointed him as Deputy Director Demolition. Elachi does not even hold an engineering degree but rather a diploma. He was suspended by the Supreme Court for misconduct but has assumed new responsibilities.
Most SBCA officers who were suspended have illegal resumed their jobs in blatant violations of orders from the Supreme Court.
