Saudi Arabia partially lifts curfew except for Makkah

RIYADH (REUTERS): Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz has issued an order to partially lift the curfew in all regions of the Kingdom except Makkah.

According to the order, public movement from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. will be allowed each day until May 13. However, the 24-hour curfew will remain in Makkah and in previously isolated neighbourhoods.

The order also allowed the opening of some economic and commercial activities, which include wholesale and retail shops in addition to malls, in the period between 6 to 20 Ramadan, which is from April 29 to May 13.

Specific stores that do not achieve social distancing measures such as beauty clinics, barber salons, sports and health clubs, recreational centers, cinemas, restaurants, cafes, and other activities determined by the competent authorities will continue to be restricted.

The order also allowed the return of the construction companies and factories to practice their activities without restrictions on time.

The statement also directed the people to follow social distancing measures, including prevention of gatherings for social purposes for more than five people, such as wedding events, funerals, etc., as well as gathering in public places.

The order warned, “In a case of violating instructions and guidelines in this regard, penalties and closing facilities will be imposed.”

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia extended a curfew imposed in the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah until further notice.
