Saudi Arabia extends curfew ‘until further notice’

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has approved the extension of curfews across the Kingdom ‘until further notice’ as the fight against coronavirus continues.
According to the state news agency, the King issued the order just before the expiration of 21-day curfew measures.
The announcement said that the extension of the curfew measure is meant to ensure that the outbreak of the coronavirus would be placed under full control.
The state media reported that the Saudi king has previously ordered a curfew that took effect on March 23 for 21 days, to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has informed that the number of coronavirus cases in the Kingdom has reached 4,033 and almost 52 people have died.
Earlier last week, Saudi Arabia placed its capital Riyadh and other big cities under a 24-hour curfew after the rule against social distancing was observed to be wantonly ignored.
On Saturday, police have started reporting the arrest of curfew violators. A group of Indian residents in Riyadh was arrested after being caught not only violating the lockdown measure but also for stealing electrical equipment and copper circuit breakers.
Two people were also arrested for violating the curfew hours for the purpose of impersonating security officers and stopping passers-by to take their money, as well as stealing a vehicle.
