On Thursday, Karachi Police apprehended two individuals in connection with the alleged rape and murder of Sarim, a seven-year-old boy whose body was discovered in a water tank 11 days after he went missing in North Karachi, according to national media.
Police officials stated that the two suspects were taken into custody from the apartment where Sarim’s body was found. They plan to complete the investigation of the suspects and send their blood samples for testing later today. The investigative team will include IT experts to ensure a thorough examination of the case.
It is important to note that Karachi police have detained a total of nine individuals since Sarim’s body was recovered from an underground water tank. His family had reported him missing, fearing he had been abducted, after he did not return from a nearby madrasa on January 7.
Authorities conducted a comprehensive search of the apartment complex, inspecting all 212 flats and the building’s four water tanks. Sarim’s body was ultimately located in one of the underground water tanks.
The post-mortem report confirmed that Sarim had been sexually assaulted and murdered, with police officials stating that he was raped, tortured, and killed after being kidnapped. The medical examination revealed that he had been strangled, his neck was broken, and there were multiple injuries on his body.
As police continue their search for the boy’s killer, Sarim’s parents held a protest the previous day, demanding justice for their son’s murder. The demonstrators, including Sarim’s parents, called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrator and urged authorities to ensure justice is served. They expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation, which has now been transferred back to the Bilal Colony police station.
