Urfan Sharif, the father of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, and her stepmother, Beinash Batool, have been sentenced to life in prison for her murder, with a minimum term of 40 years for Sharif and 33 years for Batool, according to a BBC report.
Sara endured a two-year “campaign of torture,” being hooded, burned, and beaten, before her body was discovered in the family home in Woking, Surrey, in 2023.
At the Old Bailey, Sharif, 43, was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years for murder, while Batool, 30, was sentenced to a minimum of 33 years. Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was sentenced to 16 years for causing or allowing her death.
Mr. Justice Cavanagh described the treatment Sara endured as “torture” and stated, “The degree of cruelty involved is almost inconceivable.”
He added that Batool, who did not intervene, encouraged Sharif in his abuse.
In a statement read in court, Sara’s mother, Olga Domin, called the defendants “sadists” and said, “Even this word is not enough for you. I would say you are executioners.”
