An 8-month-old camel named “Cammie” has received a prosthetic leg at a shelter home in Karachi.
The brutal event unfolded when the feudal lord, with the help of his employees, first beat Cammie severely and then used a sharp tool to amputate her leg. The camel’s owner, seeking justice, brought the injured animal to the Sanghar Press Club. A video of Cammie’s suffering soon went viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
On June 15, the incident garnered significant attention online, with social media users condemning the inhumane act. The ensuing public outcry prompted the Sindh government to take swift action, leading to the arrest of those responsible.
In response to the incident, the animal rights organization CDRS Benji Project intervened, rescuing Cammie and transferring her to Karachi. Collaborating with The Wire Pakistan, the organization announced plans to provide the injured camel with a prosthetic leg.
Working closely with the Department of Livestock and Robotics, the shelter home’s management successfully fitted Cammie with the prosthetic limb. They expressed gratitude to the company that designed and crafted the artificial leg, emphasizing the teamwork and innovation that facilitated this heartwarming recovery.
Despite the immense suffering she endured, Cammie now stands tall again, embodying resilience and highlighting the compassion and determination that can emerge in response to acts of cruelty.
