KARACHI: Alleged corruption of Rs8 million has been revealed in the supply of power generators to a Karachi’s quarantine center, set up for the prevention of coronavirus, it is learned.
According to details, a four-grade driver was found involved in corruption. The driver has recently got the post of Non-Cadre Nursing Attendant by taking a fake promotion in District Health Officer (West).
Sources in Health Department informed that investigations into the involvement of Deputy Director Procurement Dr Muhammad Ayub, Accounts Officer Khalil Bhutto and Storekeeper Shahnawaz Bajwa in Corona’s funds were still underway when generators were supplied less than the demand to a quarantine center set up for Pakistanis returned from abroad on the Southern Bypass by the health department.
Sources further claimed that about Rs8 million was embezzled by providing fewer generators than the required for the quarantine center.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the 4th-grade nursing attendant of the health department is said to be the main culprit in this corruption.
Relevant sources claimed that the person involved in the corruption had got the post of Non-Cadre Nursing Attendant due to political influence. The said 4th-grade officer possessed a car worth Rs 18 lakh.
