Rs22 billion proposed for Pakistan health sector development projects for budget 2026-27

Details of the development budget for the health sector in the upcoming fiscal year have been revealed, with a total allocation of Rs22 billion proposed for new and ongoing projects.

According to official documents, funding has been allocated for 21 ongoing and 12 new health sector projects.

An amount of Rs2.64 billion has been proposed for new schemes, while Rs19.36 billion has been earmarked for ongoing projects.

Major allocations include Rs1.2976 billion for the Islamabad Cancer Hospital and Rs1.5 billion for the Jinnah Hospital–Polyclinic project.

The documents further show that Rs1.5 billion has been proposed for the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis C Control Programme, Rs1 billion for the Diabetes Prevention Programme, and Rs1.83 billion for the development of an Integrated Disease Surveillance System.

An allocation of Rs1 billion has also been recommended for the Infectious Diseases Laboratory at the National Institute of Health, while Rs500 million has been proposed for the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre in Islamabad.

For the expansion of stroke and critical care facilities at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Rs1.5 billion has been suggested, alongside Rs1.5 billion for procurement of equipment for the Islamabad Cancer Hospital.

Additionally, Rs2 billion has been proposed for the Prime Minister’s National Health Programme. An amount of Rs500 million has been allocated for programmes targeting HIV, AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis control.

The documents also include Rs140 million for drug control initiatives and Rs500 million for the National Population Action Plan.
