KARACHI: A close relative of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been involved in distributing tenders in District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East to handpicked contractors.
Despite being a junior officer, Azhar Shah holds the posts of two different district local bodies in violation of the Supreme Court’s orders. He is working as an Additional Engineer (XEN) in DMC South, while a few months ago he was awarded the post of Superintendent Engineer in DMC East.
Many contractors have alleged that Azhar Shah paid more than Rs 100 million in June 2020 to select handpicked preferred contractors without the competitive process.

Both officers allegedly pressurized Chairman DMC and other officers to issue the tenders has remained silent on it. The Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SEPRA), which is responsible for the awarding of tenders, has not taken any action.
It is a matter of great concern that contractors are waiting for tenders while handpicked contractors have been awarded contracts in violation of the rules and regulations.
The contractors have demanded the Sindh Chief Minister, the Secretary Local Governments and SEPRA officials to take immediate notice and take stern action against the officers using the names of of government officials.
