LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to implement fool-proof security measures and will deploy Rangers due to the expected appearance of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
The anti-graft watchdog has summoned Maryam Nawaz for questioning in an illegal land transfer case at the Lahore bureau on March 26. It has emerged that Maryam Nawaz will lead a rally of the party activists to the NAB office when summoned.
In this regard, NAB Lahore has decided to deploy the Rangers and the police to avert any untoward situation during her appearance. NAB released a statement and it is a national institution and has summoned the police and the paramilitary in view of the security concerns.
According to a statement issued by the NAB’s Lahore chapter, the watchdog has reports of a possible attack on its building in on the day the PML-N leader’s appearance.
The NAB’s Lahore chapter further noted that it was submitting a request to the concerned authorities to declare its Lahore office ‘Red Zone’. It added that they would continue playing its role in recovering stolen money without succumbing to any threats or pressure
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) president Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said hundreds of thousands of his party workers will accompany Maryam Nawaz Sharif when she will appear before the NAB.
Speaking to the media on Sunday after meeting Maryam Nawaz, the opposition alliance president said the NAB was not an independent body and alleged that it was working for other institutions. He said hundreds of thousands of party workers would accompany Maryam during her appearance in solidarity.
At the same time, Maryam Nawaz has appeared defiant and chided the anti-corruption watchdog for seeking cancellation of her bail on the pretext that she was giving statements against state institutions.
Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly and PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz has taken the responsibility to make PML-N power show a success on the appearance of Maryam Nawaz before NAB.
Hamza Shehbaz chaired a meeting of PML-N lawmakers from Lahore on Monday attended by Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah and others and tasked them to bring a large number of people for the rally.
Maryam Nawaz will lead a rally from the family’s residence in Jati Umrah to NAB office in Lahore and would be accompanied by Hamza Shehbaz and PDM leadership. It may be mentioned that clashes erupted between police and PML-N workers when Maryam Nawaz was summoned to NAB Lahore bureau in August 2020.
