Sindh government has imposed a rain emergency in the province after the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted showers in multiple cities including Karachi.
The government has ordered that all institutions in the province be closed at 2 pm on Friday given the rains. Educational institutions will not have evening shifts either.
A special rain emergency cell has been created in the chief minister’s office to monitor the situation.
Mayor Karachi has canceled all leaves granted to the municipal corporation’s staff and told all staff members to remain alert.
The government has also told fishermen to remain out of the sea till March 4.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued instructions for advance measures at Jinnah International Airport.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), many cities in Sindh, including Karachi, are expected to receive torrential rainfall today.
In its weather advisory, the Met Office said the heavy rain may generate flash floods and disrupt daily life in vulnerable areas.
In a statement, the CAA directed the authorities concerned to adopt precautionary measures.
