Islamabad: The government and the Petroleum Dealers Association have reached a successful agreement, prompting the association to withdraw its planned strike, which was expected to disrupt fuel supply across the country.

The breakthrough came after extensive negotiations between petroleum dealers and government officials, including the Secretary of Petroleum.

The key point of discussion revolved around concerns that deregulation would negatively impact dealers’ profit margins. However, the federal minister assured the association that their earnings would remain protected despite any policy changes.

Another major concern raised by the Petroleum Dealers Association was the rampant smuggling of Iranian oil into Pakistan. Dealers argued that the influx of cheap, illegal fuel has been severely impacting their businesses. In response, the federal minister committed to taking immediate and strict action against oil smuggling.

To address the issue effectively, the government has promised to engage law enforcement agencies in discussions to implement measures that will curb the flow of smuggled fuel into the country. Officials emphasized that regulatory efforts will be strengthened to ensure a fair and competitive market for petroleum dealers operating legally.

With their primary concerns addressed, the Petroleum Dealers Association officially withdrew its strike call, ensuring that fuel stations across the country would continue operating without disruption. The association acknowledged the government’s assurances and stated that it would closely monitor the situation in the coming weeks to ensure that the agreed measures are implemented.

This successful resolution comes as a relief to consumers, who were bracing for potential fuel shortages had the strike proceeded as planned.

The government reiterated its commitment to working alongside petroleum dealers to address their concerns while maintaining stability in the fuel sector.

The government is expected to hold further consultations with petroleum dealers regarding the long-term implications of deregulation. Meanwhile, authorities will begin coordination with law enforcement to combat Iranian oil smuggling more aggressively.
