LAHORE: The nation remembers renowned Qawwal singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on his 22nd death anniversary today.
Born as Pervez Fateh Ali Khan, Nusrat Fateh made the qawwali famous among the newer generations. While he was a vocalist and musician, he made his name and fame globally with a soulful voice and devotion to music.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was popularly known as Shahenshah-e-Qawwali‚ meaning the Kings of Qawwali. He is widely credited with introducing Sufi music to international audiences.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Nusrat Fateh holds the world record for the largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist, a total of 125 albums as of 2001.
The music legend passed away on 16th August 1997 at the age of 48, leaving behind his legacy.
