The Punjab government has officially imposed a ban on electronic cigarettes (vapes) following approval during a recent provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.
In a decisive public health measure, CM Maryam Nawaz directed the district administration and relevant authorities to initiate a province-wide crackdown on both legal and illegal vaping centres, which she said were endangering the well-being of the younger population.
“The unchecked use of vapes among the younger generation poses serious health risks,” she stated. “This decision has been made to protect our youth from long-term diseases and addiction.”
According to official sources, the government’s action includes shutting down unauthorized vaping centres and strictly regulating the sale and distribution of e-cigarettes across Punjab.
This move underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to safeguarding public health and curbing rising trends of nicotine addiction among adolescents and young adults.
