Punjab Province on Wednesday launched a virtual blood bank initiative aimed at ensuring timely access to blood for patients in need.
Patients requiring blood transfusions can now reach the emergency blood bank service by dialing the police emergency helpline 15 and pressing 4.
According to a spokesperson from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the first stage of the process involves collecting essential information, including the patient’s blood group and residence.
Once this data is verified, the system identifies registered local blood donors and connects them with patients via a conference call, ensuring efficient and immediate communication.
“This is a humanitarian initiative that calls on all citizens to contribute by donating blood, as it can help save lives,” the spokesperson said.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz also appealed to the public, encouraging community-wide participation in blood donation to make a meaningful difference.
So far, 25,000 individuals have registered as blood donors, including 10,000 police personnel. New volunteers can register through the PSCA website or by dialing 15 and following the instructions.
“This is a significant step toward promoting voluntary blood donation and ensuring timely availability for those in urgent need,” the spokesperson added.
